Polish soldiers will train at NATO IT Academy

Transformation of national and allied information systems, cooperation in cybersecurity and joint training - these are the main topics of conversation between Tomasz Zdzikot, secretary of state in the National Defense Ministry and Kevin J. Scheid, Director General of the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency).

Monday's meeting of the deputy minister with the general director of the Agency, which is responsible, among others, for the protection and smooth operation of ICT systems and the flow of information within the North Atlantic Alliance also concerned the building of cyberdefence capabilities.

During the meeting, in which the head of the IT Inspectorate also took part, the issues related to the training of personnel operating in the area of cyber security, including the area of C3 - Command, Control and Communication (command, control and communication) were also discussed.

Deputy Minister Tomasz Zdzikot declared support of the Ministry of National Defense for the nascent NATO IT Academy - a prestigious NATO training center. Built in the Portuguese city of Oeiras, the academy will start operating in the third quarter of 2019. It will train experts of the civilian and military personnel of the North Atlantic Alliance in the field of exploiting advanced IT and cybernetic systems and software. Polish soldiers will also participate in the training.

During a three-day visit to Poland, the director general of the NATO Communications and Information Agency will meet, among others with representatives of defense department cells responsible for issues in the area of cyber security. He will also visit the Multinational Division North-East (MNDNE) in Elbląg, where he will get acquainted with IT projects implemented in the allied unit.

NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is responsible, among others, for the protection and smooth operation of ICT systems and the flow of information within the North Atlantic Alliance. The agency cooperates with companies from the cybersecurity industry in international projects of smart defense. It also enables the exchange of expertise, information and experience in counteracting cyber attacks. In the event of an cyber security incident, the agency provides the necessary support to the Member States.
