Ready to collective action in a case of threat

03.07.2022

“We witnessed the training, where our soldiers and soldiers from the North Atlantic Alliance presented their skills of cooperation and building interoperability between NATO forces. On a daily basis, such exercises take place here in the Warmian-Masurian Province, but also in other parts of our country, with special consideration on eastern Poland” - said Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak in Orzysz, where NATO troops are stationed.

On Sunday, in the area of the training ground in Orzysz, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence met with the soldiers of the multinational combat group eFP NATO.

A multinational battalion battle group is stationed in Bemowo Piskie as a part of the eFP (enhanced forward presence) initiative with the USA as a framework nation. In addition, allies from Romania, Great Britain and Croatia serve there. On a daily basis, the group cooperates with the 15th Mechanized Brigade. As with the other eFP battalion battle groups in Europe, its operations are coordinated by the Multinational Division North East in Elbląg.

“This proves that NATO is prepared to deter the aggressor. This shows that we take our commitments seriously. In Madrid, during the NATO summit, extremely important, one could say historic, decisions were taken. The first is calling Russia a threat. The second is that the United States decided that the forward element of the HQ for US Army’s V Corps will be stationed in Poland on a permanent basis. Not rotating, not boosting, but constant presence. The third groundbreaking decision is the admission of countries from our part of Europe: Sweden and Finland to NATO. Countries that are extremely important for the security of Poland as well”

- said the deputy prime minister.

The recent NATO summit in Madrid confirmed the Alliance's strength in the face of the threat from imperialist Russia. The reaction of the allies, the support that Poland and other countries on the Eastern Flank received, showed the international, joint strength. The consent to the admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO and the placement in Poland of the permanent HQ for US Army's V Corps - these decisions are important for the security of Poland and the entire Eastern Flank of NATO.

“From year to year, Poland's position in NATO is stronger. With each new military unit that is being built in our country. Until 2015, military units had been liquidated. Today units are being built. Today the military is equipped with modern equipment. Hence the orders that are currently being processed. For example, the Patriot system - the first units will be delivered to Poland this year. Bayraktar - percussive drones that proved to be fantastic in the war in Ukraine. It is also the armament that we ordered. This year we also ordered modern Abrams tanks. We are waiting for Himars deliveries. We develop all these abilities. From year to year, defence spending is increasing, and Poland can develop”

- noted the head of the Ministry of National Defence.

From March 12, 1999, when Poland became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, our position in NATO continued to grow. Poland is perceived as a credible and solid ally. Our soldiers actively participate in NATO military missions and operations, and also serve in the structures of NATO's Forward Presence on the eastern flank - in Latvia and Romania. There are elements of the NATO structure on the territory of Poland - in Szczecin, Elbląg, Bydgoszcz and Kraków. A total of over 10,000 US soldiers are stationed on Polish territory as part of the enhanced presence.

“Today the commanders said how important artillery fire is. We will have a lot of such fire. We are building this artillery firepower based on our own resources, but also on resources acquired from our allies. The army cannot be a relic of the past, as was the case with our predecessors. The army must be the guarantor of the future, the army is the guarantor of the Polish future, Polish security. Our army is getting stronger”

- said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who was present in Orzysz.
