Strengthening the US Military Presence in Poland
02.02.2022
Nearly two thousand American soldiers will be deployed to Poland in the oncoming days. On Wednesday the Pentagon announcedthat it has finalized arrangements to strengthen the US military presence in Poland and other parts of NATO's eastern flank (Romania and Germany).
The mentioned above decision was preceded by last week's consultations by Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence, with Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of Defence.
"Strengthening the American presence in Poland by 1,700 soldiers is a strong signal of solidarity in response to a possible Russian aggression towards Ukraine" - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence.
The United States will deploy to Poland elements of the Brigade Combat Group from the 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg (North Carolina).
Additional staff elements related to that deployment in the strength of 300 soldiers will be deployed by the USA in Germany.
The deployed forces will significantly strengthen the deterrence and defence of Poland and the entire Alliance due to the growing crisis caused by the aggressive actions of Russia and Belarus.
"The decision to strengthen NATO's eastern flank shows that the USA and the Alliance are taking the threat posed by Russia seriously and are taking decisive deterrence measures. The strength of the allies in deterring a potential aggressor is unity, determination and solidarity" - Minister Mariusz Błaszczak noted.
