Support for Ukraine will continue
09.01.2025
- At the meeting in Ramstein, I presented a plan for our coalition to develop armoured capabilities for Ukraine and provided information on additional donations. All countries participating in this meeting are preparing for further support and donations for Ukraine - stated Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz following a meeting of representatives from over 50 countries forming the Ukraine Defence Contact Group.
On 9 January 2025, the Minister of Defence participated in a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), which was convened at the US air base in Ramstein, Germany. The agenda of this meeting included an examination of the present equipment requirements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and a review of the Group's activities up to the present time.
- Following discussions with those providing the most support to Ukraine, including Poland, there is a consensus to perpetuate the meetings in this format. (…) Everyone in this group expresses their will to maintain this structure, with the United States playing a pivotal role, and it is anticipated that such a meeting will occur in the subsequent administration's term. This format has proven to be effective. The role of NATO is, of course, very important, (...) but the Contact Group we are on should, in my opinion, be continued
- the head of the Ministry of Defence indicated.
During the Contact Group session, which was held for the 25th time since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Ukrainian representatives presented the current situation on the battlefield and the most urgent equipment needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The second panel was devoted to a summary of the activities of the capability coalitions operating within the Group.
In addition, the Polish Minister of Defence has announced plans for the preparation of an additional support package for Ukraine.
- We are always willing to provide support. Of course, within the limits of our security interests
- Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak – Kamysz made a statement.
Security concerns were a focal point of the bilateral discussions held between the Polish Minister of Defence and the Secretary of Defence, in addition to the defence ministers of Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG, also known as the Ramstein Group) is an alliance of over 50 countries and organisations that support Ukraine's defence by providing military equipment, its maintenance and training of personnel in response to the Russian invasion in 2022. The group coordinates the ongoing transfer of military assistance at monthly meetings, the first of which was held on 26 April 2022. Poland has been one of the most active countries in both assisting the population and supplying military equipment to Ukraine.
