We act as one organism. Bull Run-18 - NATO military interoperability test
25.03.2022
“Exercises within the eFP improve the skills of cooperation between the Polish Army and allied forces. The task that the commanders set for the soldiers during the exercise is primarily to improve the skills of cooperation, so this is what is called interoperability in NATO terminology. The point is that, in an emergency, the enhanced allied forces could work together very smoothly to ensure security and to deter the aggressor. To prove that the soldiers of the allied forces are well-coordinated and have high skills that they can cooperate with each other. This is the key to ensuring the security of our homeland” - said Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of National Defence during a meeting with soldiers participating in the Bull Run-18 exercise.
On Friday, March the 25th, the head of the Ministry of National Defence in the area of the water dam in Siemianówka watched the final episode of the Bull Run-18 exercise conducted jointly by the soldiers of the 16th Mechanized Division and the Battle Group. The main purpose of the exercise was to check the readiness of troops to efficiently relocate units over a long distance and conduct defence activities.
Bull Run is a regular exercise involving the dedicated forces of the 16th Mechanized Division and units of the international NATO eFP Battle Group, which has been stationed in Poland since 2017. The exercise takes place with the participation of nearly 2 thousands soldiers and more than half a thousand units of equipment.
"We are well aware of the threats that are currently taking place. There is a war going on across the eastern border. Ukraine has been attacked by Russia. We are aware that only by building interoperability on the one hand, and strengthening the Polish Army on the other hand, we are able to ensure security "
- said the head of the Ministry of National Defence.
“This exercise is conducted outside the training grounds. The assumption of this exercise is cooperation with allies, cooperation between the 15th Mechanized Brigade and other units of the 16th Mechanized Division, which train on a daily basis not only on training grounds, but also in casual terrain. One of the episodes was the control of an obstacle, capture a dam and recapture of the hands of enemy. It is a great opportunity to cooperate with the alliance forces, with American, British, Croatian and Romanian troops, which train with us on a daily basis on training grounds"
- said Major General Krzysztof Radomski, commander of the 16th Mechanized Division.
The exercise was multinational and soldiers of various branches of troops participated in it. The following forces were involved in the exercise: the 2nd mechanized battalion, anti-aircraft squadron, engineers battalion, logistic battalion and command battalion of the 15th Mechanized Brigade and the US-Army battalion, British reconnaissance company, supported by the forces of the 9th Armoured Cavalry Brigade, 20th Mechanized Brigade, 25th Air Cavalry Brigade, the 15th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, the 11th Artillery Regiment and the 16th Logistics Regiment. Additionally, the operations of the units were covered from the air by the Mi-24D and W-3 combat helicopters.
The head of the Ministry of National Defence also met with soldiers of the Polish Army who serve on the Polish-Belarusian border. The Minister thanked the soldiers for their service on the Polish-Belarusian border and on NATO's Eastern flank.
“I have spoken with soldiers who are on duty at the border. It must be remembered that although the intensity of hybrid attacks on Poland by the Lukashenka regime has decreased, we still have several dozen attempts to cross the border each day. Migrants are undoubtedly encouraged to do so by the Belarusian services. We must consider this situation as one of the elements of a threat to our security. I would like to thank the soldiers of the Polish Army and allied forces for their daily service on the eastern flank of NATO. It is extremely important for the security of our homeland, but also of all countries of the North Atlantic Alliance"
- he said.
Minister Blaszczak referred to yesterday's visit to Brussels, where he accompanied the president to the Extraordinary NATO Summit in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
“Yesterday, a meeting of the North Atlantic Council was held at the level of heads of state and heads of government. I had the opportunity to participate in this meeting. The Polish delegation was headed by President Andrzej Duda. We talked about strengthening NATO's Eastern flank. Planning documents are being prepared and a program is being prepared to ensure an even greater presence of NATO troops on NATO's Eastern flank. Poland is one of the leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance. Not only when it comes to the activity of Polish Army soldiers in missions, but also when it comes to the development of the Polish Army. Both in terms of numbers, because the target is 300,000 soldiers, but also in terms of equipping the army with modern equipment"
- he said.
