We are strengthening Polish-German defence cooperation
15.07.2020
- On a daily basis, Polish and German soldiers train together, and together with our friends from Denmark we have organized and run the Corps HQ in Szczecin. Germany is the framework nation in Lithuania for eFP battlegroup. Therefore, there are many both bilateral and multilateral, in the framework of the European Union, as well as in the format of the North Atlantic Alliance, common relations that provide a strong basis for our countries to be secure, said Mariusz Błaszczak after the meeting with the head of the German Ministry of Defence.
On Wednesday July 15th, 2020 in Warsaw, the head of the Ministry of National Defence hosted Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Minister of Defence of Germany.
- Thank you, Minister, for a very good conversation on cooperation in the European Union and NATO formats. For example, we talked about PESCO cooperation. We are very active, we have ideas and we will use the opportunities to increase the security of our countries. I am very glad that we agree on the fundamental issue that the European Union should not compete with NATO.
Bilateral talks concerned, inter alia, opportunities for the development of armaments cooperation, the involvement of both countries in strengthening security on NATO's eastern flank, as well as priorities in the area of security and defence of the German presidency of the EU Council, which began in July this year.
- The security of Poland is also the security of Germany and vice versa. Due to the fact that we are united by common interests, we very much deserve close bilateral cooperation within the European Union and within NATO. In the conversation we had, we agreed that NATO and transatlantic relations must remain a pillar of our security, said Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, head of the German Ministry of Defence.
