The Institute will implement innovative telemedicine projects

The National Institute of Telecommunications signed two funding agreements with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in December. The support will enable the implementation of innovative telemedicine projects initiated by Minister Janusz Cieszyński.

As part of the projects, the Institute will build a teleinformatics system for the e-Konsylium remote medical consultation platform and develop a telediagnostic model to increase the detection of diabetic retinopathy. In addition to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health will also provide financial support for the projects.

Virtual consultation platform

The e-Konsylium platform will enable remote meetings between doctors of various specialties necessary to make decisions about the treatment of cardiac and oncology patients. It will also provide the necessary medical documentation transmission, sharing, and processing. Fast and reliable access to doctors will allow patients to be virtually and remotely transferred to a specialized cardiac or oncological hospital and make the appropriate decision without delay.

Faster diagnosis saves sight

The second project funded by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister aims to develop a telediagnostic model to increase the detection of diabetic retinopathy. The work will be carried out in cooperation with the Medical University of Lublin.

The new diagnostic model will reach residents of the Lublin voivodeship who have limited access to specialist doctors on a daily basis. Patients identified by family doctors will be preliminarily diagnosed in selected locations in a properly equipped vehicle. The test results will be sent for evaluation by specialists from the ophthalmology clinic of the UML hospital.

The National Institute of Telecommunications will be responsible for preparing the diagnostic vehicle and its equipment, including mobile communication and data transmission tools. Their specialists will also develop a machine learning model to facilitate ophthalmic diagnosis by doctors.

Telemedicine in the hands of professionals

The Institute of Telecommunications' extensive expertise in wireless communication, data transmission, teleinformatics systems, and machine learning will be utilized in the projects. The Institute also has vast experience in solutions supporting the collection, transmission, processing, and analysis of large amounts of data.
