The annual celebrations at the Lommel war cemetery this year had a special character due to the 130th anniversary of the birth of General Stanisław Maczek, commander of the 1st Armored Division, which fought for the liberation of Flanders from German occupation.

Damian Przeniosło, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Polish Delegation to NATO, took part in the Holy Mass for the Homeland and laid a wreath at the monument commemorating Polish soldiers at the Lommel cemetery.

In order to commemorate General Maczek and his soldiers, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Poland to NATO, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brussels, presented an exhibition devoted to three Polish Generals - General Władysław Anders, General Stanisław Maczek and General Stanisław Sosabowski, in connection with the 130th anniversary of their birth. The exhibition was prepared by the Polish Embassy in London.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities, Polish diplomatic missions in Belgium and the Netherlands, and a large group of Polish diaspora.

The celebration in Lommel is one of the annual events dedicated to the commemoration of the Polish soldiers who liberated Belgium in 1944. Representatives of the Polish Delegation to NATO also participate in the annual celebrations in Roeselare, Leuven, Maldegem, Beerse and others.
