Lithuanian Permanent Representative to NATO awarded Bene Merito honorary distinction

On 3 February, Ambassador Tomasz Szatkowski presented Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to NATO Ambassador Vytautas Leškevičius with the “Bene Merito” honorary distinction in appreciation for strengthening Polish-Lithuanian security cooperation.

Ambassador Leškevičius is a great friend of Poland and we have been lucky to have him here at NATO Headquarters as a partner and trusted Ally. He is also a strong believer in NATO’s deterrence and defence posture. We had worked together towards establishing NATO enhanced forward presence in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and we have succeeded – underlined Ambassador Szatkowski.  

 

Ambassador Leškevičius has been Lithuania‘s Permanent Representative to NATO for five years and in this time has continuously contributed to strengthening Polish-Lithuanian cooperation and partnership in the Alliance.

 

The ceremony at the Polish Delegation to NATO was attended by Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană, Assistant Secretary General Giedrimas Jeglinskas, representatives of NATO IS and both Polish and Lithuanian Delegations.

 

Established in 2009, the “Bene Merito” honorary distinction is conferred upon the citizens of the Republic of Poland and foreign nationals in recognition of their merits in promoting Poland abroad. “Bene Merito” is awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
