Meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

An annual meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with the North Atlantic Council took place on 17-19 February at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The discussions focused on NATO priorities in the field of security and defense policy, the situation in the Middle East, NATO-EU cooperation and cyber security.
On the first day, a meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) was held with the participation of the chairmen of the national delegations to the NATO PA and the Permanent Representatives to NATO. Poland was represented by the deputy chairman of the delegation of the Polish Parliament to the NATO PA - Michał Szczerba and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to NATO Tomasz Szatkowski. The Polish delegation, which consisted of representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland Michał Szczerba (KO), Michał Jach (PiS), Ewa Kołodziej (KO), Czesław Mroczek (KO), and Rafał Ślusarz (PiS) also participated in meetings of the Political Commission (PC), Defense and Security Committee (DSC), Economic and Security Committee (ESC), Civil Security Dimension Committee (CDS) and Science and Technology Committee (STC).
During the meetings, talks were held about missions and operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the situation in Syria and Libya, defense spending as well as deterrence and defense policy. Cooperation with partners, challenges from China and Russia as well as issues of cyber security, hybrid threats and modern technologies were also discussed. The delegates also talked about strategic communication on the Alliance's activities, as well as the need for the full involvement of women as active peace and security activists in connection with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
