The key topic of the Madrid Summit was Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the Euro-Atlantic community. Allies discussed the ongoing support for Kiev, the impact of the radically changed security situation in Europe on the Alliance and its long-term adaptation to current threats and challenges.

At the Summit, a new NATO Strategic Concept was adopted, which defines the main directions of NATO's activities and development over the next few years. It identifies Russia as the most serious and immediate threat to the security of the Allies and reaffirms that collective defense against all threats is the Alliance's primary goal and responsibility. Moreover, the leaders agreed on further military adaptation of the Alliance and strengthening of the Allied presence on NATO's eastern flank, including in Poland.

The Allies also decided to invite Finland and Sweden to join NATO. It was a historic step that will broaden the zone of security and cooperation in Europe, and strengthen the transatlantic community in the face of the threat from Russia.

President Duda, along with 21 other representatives of Allied countries, took part in the signing ceremony of the NATO Innovation Fund Letter of Commitment.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President held bilateral talks with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern, and the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol.

As part of the Madrid summit, NATO foreign ministers met with their counterparts from Jordan and Mauritania. They discussed joint steps to counteract the global consequences of Russia's aggression in Ukraine. Minister Rau expressed particular concern about the food crisis, which is affecting mainly developing countries. He assured that "Poland is doing everything possible to counteract the consequences of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and help those most in need". He presented the steps taken by Poland, among others for the transport of agricultural products from Ukraine.

NATO Defense Ministers met with their counterpart from Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss current challenges in the Western Balkans area.
