Virtual tour of the Former German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau

03.02.2025

At the initiative of the Permanent Representations of Poland and Italy to NATO, the Ambassadors of the Allies and Israel took part in a virtual tour of the Former German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The event was organized at the Polish Delegation to NATO premises to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Camp.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Welcoming the attendees, Ambassadors of Poland and Italy drew attention to the drama of the war and the Holocaust. Ambassador Jacek Najder quoted a historian, journalist and Auschwitz survivor Marian Turski: “Auschwitz did not suddenly fall from the sky, Auschwitz was stomping, treading with small steps, coming closer until what happened here happened.” He also drew attention to the passing generation of Survivors and the need to remember them.

During the virtual visit, participants saw the inside of the camp buildings and heard about the dramatic living and working conditions of the prisoners. They also listened to the testimony of a Survivor subjected to cruel medical experiments. Information was also provided on the subsequent trial of the Camp commander.
