On November 11, on Poland’s Independence Day, representatives of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to NATO and the Polish Military Representation to the NATO and EU Military Committees laid wreaths at the graves of Polish soldiers killed during World War II, at cemeteries in Holsbeek and Leuven-Heverlee, as well as at a commemorative plaque in Geetbets.
On behalf of the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to NATO, Ambassador Tomasz Szatkowski and the Polish Military Representative to the NATO and EU Committees, Lt Gen. Janusz Adamczak, flowers were laid in Geetbets and Holsbeek in honor of Polish airmen who died during World War II. Wreaths were also laid at the British War Cemetery Leuven-Heverlee, where over a dozen Polish soldiers were laid to rest. Local Polish community was represented at the ceremony.
In Geetbets a wreath was placed under the plaque commemorating the tragic fate of Polish airmen, members of the 304 Silesian and the 301 Pomerian squadrons, which were shot down by German fighters during World War II. The plaque was unveiled in 2009 by the town council of Geetbets.
