Everyday forms of resistance

Another edition of the largest Polish-Palestinian art project took place in Ramallah

We have successfully concluded this year's edition of the art project 'Everyday forms of resistance', which was realised in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Art - Ujazdowski Castle from Warsaw and the Ramallah Municipality. This year, a dozen artists from Poland, Belgium and Germany met in Ramallah, travelling around Palestine and meeting with local artists to analyse the reality of occupied Palestine and jointly find inspiration for creative work.

Everyday resistance, understood as a set of cultural 'anchors' and behaviours, located somewhere on the level of instinct, is an integral part of Polish and Palestinian DNA. At its core lies a rejection of the hostile reality constructed by the aggressor and a disagreement with life in slavery. The years of experience of the partitions, when Poland was divided for 123 years between hostile powers, and the years of Nazi and Communist occupation created in us everyday forms of resistance, such as attachment to tradition, telling legends, cherishing memories, wearing "patriotic jewellery" in the 19th century or, later, the resistors, which young people wore on their clothes to show their opposition to Communism. It is also the daily traditions of cooking national food, fairy tales told to children at bedtime, respect for nature that is part of the local identity, the wearing of national costumes and much more. In a very similar way, everyday forms of resistance function in the Palestinian reality, becoming over time part of the national identity that ensures the survival of both individuals and the nation as a whole.

The 'everyday forms of resistance' project is the largest Polish-Palestinian cultural project that also involves artists from other European countries. You can read more about it at the following links:
