Polish humanitarian aid for Bethlehem

Just before Christmas, Poland provided humanitarian aid to the poorest families in the Bethlehem governorate. This joint project was carried out by the Polish diplomatic mission in Ramallah in cooperation with the Mayor of Bethlehem A. Salman and Sisters of the Congregation of St. Elizabeth from the House of Peace in Bethlehem.

The food packages contain what is most needed, food products, personal protective equipment and sweets for children. At the moment, packages are distributed to the needy. We are glad that we managed to help the poorest families of Bethlehem before Christmas. All of us, both in Palestine and Poland, have been struck by a pandemic, people have lost their jobs, and many have found themselves below the poverty line. Bethlehem - a city always full of pilgrims and tourists has been empty since March this year. This year, only a few priests will hold a service in the Basilica of the Nativity.

We are proud that in this special and indeed bad year, we have managed to come to the aid of the people in need of Palestine twice. First time in May, in Hebron before the Muslim holiday of Eid Al Adha and now in Bethlehem before Christmas. In both of these cities we met wonderful people, both Muslims and Christians, who helped us to provide Polish Aid to the most needy. It was a lesson for all of us in true solidarity that knows no boundaries or divisions.
