On 4 February, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz, together with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Ernesto Araújo and US State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Albright, opened a meeting of the Humanitarian Issues and Refugees Working Group of the Warsaw Process.

In his address, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz pointed out that the humanitarian and refugee crises are among the greatest challenges currently facing the Middle East. He also noted that children are in a particularly difficult situation, as they suffer not only physical, but also psychological trauma, and that their normal development and access to education are hindered. The minister further emphasised that Poland has been involved in efforts to improve children’s situation in armed conflict for a long time. He also observed that the experience of Brazil and Latin American countries in tackling the influx of refugees from Venezuela can be valuable for Middle East states.

The meeting in Brazil’s capital brought together several dozen delegations from countries participating in the Warsaw Process, as well as the representatives of international government and non-governmental organisations. It is the sixth out of seven Warsaw Process meetings scheduled ahead of the ministerial meeting in Washington.
