Europe Readr. Open a book for a better future.

06.07.2021

EUNIC Finland, is pleased to introduce to you the new Europe Readr project, which presents current social issues to readers around the world by selecting literary works from across the European Union.

Europe Readr 5

Europe Readr is a project initiated by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July 2021 and realised in cooperation with the EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) network.

Europe Readr aims to foster a culture of reading and critical thinking in societies on the future of living, support the creation of public spaces for exchange and debate on shared European values, and dialogue on the European Green Deal, sustainable development and urban planning.

The digital Europe Readr platform brings readers around the world closer to current social issues. It encourages reflection on the world we want to live in, giving us the opportunity to perceive the European Union as a community in all its diversity and interconnectedness, and as a community with a common future.

The project is on display at the Oodi library in the center of Helsinki. Poland is represented by Julia Fiedorczuk with the volume of her poetry "Psalms". “The poems speak with the voice of marginalized or silent groups, including plants, animals and nature. They are laments mourning death in war and extinct species and ecosystems. In this way, they mix biblical language with academic discourse, media jargon, and internet language. In this way, the poet wants to show that the economic, political and social crisis is also a language crisis. " - Europe Readr.

We invite you to Oodi and to the project website: https://europereadr.eu/
