Historical background
Poland established diplomatic relations with Mynamar on November 10th, 1955. After the 1988 revolution, relations between Poland and Myanmar became practically inactive. At the beginning of 1990, Poland closed its Embassy in Yangon.
Political cooperation
Since the beginning of Myanmar reforms, Poland decided to suport them in all dimensions: political (political support, training for the opposition leaders and journalists), as well as economic (Polish Reform Mission to Myanmar initiative). Polish Deputy Foreign Minister K. Stanowski paid a first high-level visit in 2011 after pro-democratic transformations in Myanmar. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland and Speaker of the Polish Senate visited Myanmar in 2012, in 2015 the Speaker of the Upper House of the Myanmar Parliament visited Poland. During the ministerial meeting of ASEM (ASEM FMM) in Naypyitaw in 2017, Poland was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister, M. Magierowski who also met with Aung San Suu Kyi. Between 2014 and 2020 the Representative Office of Poland in Yangon was in operation. Since 2016 Myanmar is a priority country of the Polish development policy. The development projects are conducted mainly in the fields of medicine and education.
Economic coopearation
Polish business is discovering Myanmar incrementally. Economic relations have some dynamics but are limited to trade. The value of Poland – Myanmar exchange has increased 700% in recent years: from 32 mil USD in 2014 to almost 225 mil USD in 2018. Poland has established Foreign Trade Office in Kuala Lumpur which is covering Myanmar. In 2017 Polish tied aid credit offered to Myanmar made it possible to purchase fire-fighting and rescue vehicles directly from Poland.

Cultural cooperation
Since 2015 the Representative Office of Poland in Yangon organizes cultural events that promote Polish culture in the area of film, music and poetry.
Scientific cooperation
No bilateral agreements in the area of scientific cooperation. Myanmar students participate in the scholarship programs offered by the Polish Government (the Lukasiewicz Scholarship Programme) or by the EU (Erasmus Mundus). Private European Education Center collage in Yangon maintains close coopeation with the Social Sciences University and with the Polish-Japanese School of Informatics in Warsaw.
