Today, Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York was elected as Vice-President of the UNICEF Executive Board Bureau for 2023.
During his tenure, he will cooperate with the President from Denmark and with fellow members of the Bureau from Argentina, Rwanda, and Tajikistan, as well as with the Executive Board and UNICEF itself.
“Poland has a rich tradition related to promoting children’s rights. As the Vice-President of the Bureau, I will be guided by the legacy of the outstanding Polish educator, Janusz Korczak, whose legacy as a precursor of the idea of children’s rights will be disseminated by our activities. Korczak’s ideas were included in the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the UN in 1989. This document, adopted with significant participation of Poland, today sets international standards for the protection of children’s rights,” said the Ambassador.
The Executive Board Bureau coordinates activities related to cooperation with UNICEF and its Governing Council, which provides intergovernmental support for UNICEF and oversees the work of the organization.
