Exceptional celebration of International Human Rights Day

10.12.2023

10 December marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly. The document has lost none of its relevance and many of the rights defined therein must still be protected in different parts of the world.

Polish diplomacy has consistently taken measures to enhance the promotion of and respect for international norms of human rights including through active multilateral policy within the United Nations system and other fora. Human rights are is one of the most essential elements of Polish foreign policy.

Our activities focus mainly on the rights of children, people with disabilities, freedom of religion or beliefs, and respecting human rights in Russia and Belarus. It should be noted that Poland vehemently condemns all instances of human rights violations committed by Russian troops during the illegal aggression against Ukraine.

Neither do we forget about the people who prove their commitment to the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through their uncompromising and steadfast attitude. It is evidenced by the Polish foreign minister presenting the 2023 Pro Dignitate Humana Award to Vladimir Kara-Murza, a journalist, defender of human rights in Russia, and political prisoner.

* The adoption of the Declaration in 1948 was a milestone on the path to acknowledge that human rights are universal, natural, indivisible, and inalienable fundamental rights and freedoms, inherent to every individual whatever their race, colour, sex, language, religion, political opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
