For the first time in history Poland chairs the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs

Ambassador Dominika Krois, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the UN Office in Vienna opened today the 64. session of the Commission in her capacity as Chair.
The session of the Commission was inaugurated with a Ceremonial Segment to commemorate two key international drug control conventions, with participation of the Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Ms. Ghada Waly. The head of the Polish delegation to the session, Mr. Piotr Jabłoński, Director of the National Bureau for Drug Prevention, will deliver a national statement in the general debate, which is devoted to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world drug situation.
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs is a functional commission of ECOSOC, based in Vienna. Its main tasks are the supervision of the application of international drug conventions and the analysis of the world drug situation. Poland has been member of the Commission six times, our current 4-year mandate will expire in 2023. For the first time in history, Poland was elected as Chair of the Commission, for the one year term.
