04.04.2022UN Human Rights Council concluded its 49th session in GenevaThe 49th session of the Human Rights Council was held in Geneva between February 28th and April 1st, 2022. The session was dominated by the issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine. It was the seventh meeting of the Council in which Poland participated as a member in the 2020-2022 term.

03.03.2022Foreign Minister Rau visits GenevaOn 2 March, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau travelled to Geneva. The visit’s programme included participation in high-level segments of the 49th session of the Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament as well as meetings with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Director General of the International Organization for Migration António Vitorino, and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer.

11.10.202172. session of the UNHCR Executive Committee took place in GenevaDelegation of Poland participated in the 72nd session of the Executive Committee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was held on 4-8 October, 2021, in Geneva. The Committee is an annual forum for discussion of member states on the directions of activities in the field of international protection and the situation of refugees in the world, as well as the UNHCR activities in this area.

01.10.2021Permanent Representatives of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia met with the Heads of UNHCR and IOM in GenevaOn September 29-30, 2021, the Permanent Representatives of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the United Nations Office in Geneva held joint visits to the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Antonio Vitorino and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR), Filippo Grandi. The purpose of the meetings was to inform on the current situation at the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia with Belarus and to condemn the actions of Belarus constituting a hybrid threat to stability and security in the European Union.
