On the 232nd anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Ambassador Zbigniew Czech hosted an annual National Constitution Day celebration.
Among the numerous guests of the evening were the members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the international organizations and international institutions, as well as the Polish community in Geneva and friends of Poland.
In his introductory speech, Ambassador Zbigniew Czech emphasized the importance of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May. He stressed that the memory of the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world helped keep Polish aspirations for the restoration of the country's sovereignty alive. The legacy of the first Polish Constitution not only helped Polish people to preserve our identity, language and culture but also to cherish the idea of freedom that was deeply rooted in every Polish heart. That affection for freedom and independence make Polish people very receptive and emphatic towards the suffering of the Ukrainian nation who is struggling against the unjustified aggression of its neighbour. Ambassador Zbigniew Czech also conveyed in Polish his personal wishes to the Polish Diaspora members, encouraging them to cultivate relations with our Homeland.
As part of the celebration, a Polish pianist Mr. Mateusz Krzyżowski gave an unique concert of masterpieces by Fryderyk Chopin and Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Mr. Krzyżowski is the extraordinarily talented winner of numerous national and international piano competitions. He has recently won the first-prize at the prestigious 12th International Paderewski Piano Competition.
The reception was also an opportunity to taste specialties of traditional Polish cuisine.
