Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Krzysztof Szczerski presented his credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss Poland’s activity in the United Nations and to talk about problems concerning international security, events in our region of Europe, including the Polish-Belarusian border and the situation in Ukraine. Ambassador reminded, that Polish priority, in the context of keeping peace and security in the world, is ensuring the primacy of international law. He also addressed the topic of regional cooperation in Europe, including the Three Seas Initiative and investments which are necessary after the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The issue of a just energy transition and Poland's successes in the field of afforestation and biodiversity were also discussed. Poland implemented an ambitious climate policy in the spirit of the agreements concluded at the COP 24 conference in Katowice. The subject of the conversation was also Poland's candidacy to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) - one of the main organs of the Organization. The Secretary-General appreciated Poland's involvement in the leading areas of the Organization's agenda, such as peace operations, promotion of human rights, or development aid.
