Meeting of the Polish-French Joint Committee on Agriculture

At the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, a meeting of the Polish-French Joint Committee on Agriculture was held. The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Bogusław Wijatyk, Director General of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry of France, Philippe Duclaud, as well as substantive experts from both Ministries. Since on 1 January 2025 Poland takes the presidency of the Council of the EU, the experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development presented the plans and priorities of the Polish Presidency.
Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU
In view of many serious challenges facing the EU, the foundation of the Polish Presidency’s activities in 2025 would be security in many aspects, including food security.
The major objectives of the Polish Presidency in the field of agriculture are to improve the competitiveness of agriculture and the agri-food sector as well as to increase the resilience to crises.
The most important topics that will be dealt with during the Polish Presidency and the calendar of events planned under the Presidency have also been discussed.
The experts from Poland and France discussed the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027, also in the context of its simplification, financing and future EU enlargement as well as the situation in agricultural markets, trade issues and new genomic techniques.
Polish-French cooperation
Poland and France confirmed the convergence of positions on the key importance of the CAP and the need to provide an adequate budget for the agricultural policy. They also stressed the will to continue cooperation in the area of EU trade policy, pointing to the need to safeguard the interests of European agriculture in the context of the EU-Mercosur agreement, the upcoming negotiations between the European Commission and Ukraine pursuant to Article 29 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the EU enlargement to include Ukraine.
France declared its readiness to support Poland and to have a constructive dialogue within the framework of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Polish-French Committee on Agriculture
The Polish-French Joint Committee on Agriculture has been established to strengthen cooperation between our countries on agricultural issues and to emphasise the importance of agriculture in the economies of Poland and France and the strategic nature of Polish-French relations. It is a platform for cooperation and exchange of views at expert level and for convergence of positions between our countries on the most important issues related to agriculture.
