Polish-Chinese talks: positive audit assessment

19.11.2024

Today, the Secretary of State Jacek Czerniak attended the meeting closing the audit of the inspectors from the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas of the People’s Republic of China (MARA). As a result of the audit, the Chinese representatives positively assessed the Polish system of supervision over the production of poultry meat and the application of regionalisation. This is another measure aimed at resuming the export of Polish poultry meat to China.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Veterinary Officer Krzysztof Jażdżewski and the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the General Veterinary Inspectorate (GVI) and the local branches of veterinary inspection.

Objective of the audit

The inspection started on 13 November 2024 and its objective was to verify the application in Poland of the regionalisation principle with regard to poultry diseases (avian influenza HPAI, Newcastle disease ND). The programme of the visit of the Chinese delegation – apart from meetings at the MARD – included, inter alia, meetings at the local branches of veterinary inspection, the National Veterinary Research Institute in Puławy, poultry establishments and poultry farms.

Chinese inspectors positively assess the audit process

The GACC and MARA inspectors positively assessed the system of supervision over the production of poultry meat and the application of regionalisation in Poland. The head of the Chinese delegation assured that the visit had achieved its intended objectives – the audit showed that the Polish authorities were properly performing control and supervisory functions.

Deputy Minister Czerniak stressed that the Polish party wanted to resume the export of Polish poultry meat to China pursuant to the regionalisation principle in the field of poultry diseases.

– This visit was an opportunity to present the standards and procedures concerning food safety and animal disease prevention, as applied in Poland. We are ready for further hard work to resume the export of Polish poultry meat to China – said Deputy Minister Czerniak.

Trade in agri-food products

China is a very important partner of Poland in agri-food trade. In 2023, our export to that country reached a value of EUR 147.6 million. Currently, Polish milk and milk products, down and feathers and frozen fruit enjoy the greatest interest in the Chinese market.
