The development of cooperation between the countries in agricultural matters was discussed by the Secretary of State Stefan Krajewski with the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr. Rania Al-Mashat.
Position of Poland
Deputy Minister Stefan Krajewski assured that Poland was interested in developing cooperation in agricultural matters with Egypt, which we consider to be an important partner in the Middle East region. He expressed his hope to strengthen relations both in the area of trade, research and science. He informed about the readiness of Polish companies to increase the volume and expand the range of products sent to the Egyptian market, which would contribute to improving the level of food security of Egypt.
The Secretary of State pointed to the need to solve veterinary problems, including those related to obtaining export licences for Polish poultry and beef establishments. He also added that we were ready to discuss the conditions of exporting cereals from Poland to Egypt.
Position of the Egyptian party
Minister Rania Al-Mashat agreed that we should take measures to make better use of the potential of Polish-Egyptian relations, particularly in the area of agri-food processing, water use or improving the transport of goods. She stressed that ensuring food security was one of the key issues, in particular in the context of climate change.
The Egyptian Minister expressed her hope that the inauguration of work of the Egyptian-Polish Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation on 11 December 2024 would be an impulse to strengthen cooperation also in agricultural matters.
Polish-Egyptian trade in agri-food products
Egypt is a promising partner for Poland in the Middle East region. In 2023, the value of agri-food export to Egypt amounted to more than EUR 87 million. We exported mainly: apples, cheese and curd, malt extract as well as bread and confectionery.
In the first quarter of 2024, we exported to Egypt goods with the value exceeding EUR 62 million. At that time, the export structure was dominated by apples, cheese and curd.
