Polish-Ukrainian talks

03.12.2024

The conditions for conducting trade in agri-food goods between Poland and Ukraine, following the future expiry of the EU trade preferences (ATM) that have been applicable for 3 years, were one of the important topics of today’s talks between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval. The Minister was accompanied by the General Director of the Ministry Bogusław Wijatyk.

As Minister Siekierski stressed, agricultural trade with Ukraine would be one of the issues discussed during the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025.

Potential for mutual cooperation

The Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Ukraine discussed potential areas of cooperation in agricultural matters. Minister Koval encouraged Polish entities to invest in Ukraine, particularly, in the area of food processing.

Continuing the dialogue on agricultural issues

The next meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Ukraine is scheduled for 11 December 2024. It will be the 5th meeting of the Ministers since the appointment of Vitaliy Koval to the position of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The meeting has been planned to include the participation of representatives of the agri-food industry, which would contribute to deepening the discussion on potential solutions and searching for synergy points.

Agro & Food Security Forum

Today’s meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Poland and Ukraine was held in Warsaw on the sidelines of the Agro & Food Security Forum. Ministers Siekierski and Koval attended the ceremonial opening of that event. The Forum, according to the assumptions of the organisers – the Association of Producers and Consumers of Legumes of Ukraine and the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce – is to serve as an international platform for analysing the future of the agricultural sector, including cereals, legumes and oilseeds.
