Couriers caught
08.12.2021
Officers from the Bieszczady Border Guard Regional Unit have caught three foreigners who intended to help migrants to illegally cross the border. At the same time, on the Ukrainian side, border services have caught two Turks who were planning to cross the border into Poland on foot.
A patrol of Border Guard officers, equipped with thermal vision cameras, noticed a car approaching the border region. It turned out that the Nissan with Polish registration plates carried three Ukrainian citizens (a 31-year-old woman and two 34-year-old men). It was determined that the foreigners were staying in Poland illegally.
Their visit to the border region was not accidental, however, and nearly at the same time the Ukrainian border services caught two Turkish citizens on their side. These men intended to cross the border into Poland on foot.
The Ukrainian citizens have admitted to organising illegal border crossing for the two Turks. For smuggling them through the border and transporting them to western Europe, the Ukrainians were to receive one thousand euros from each Turk.
The couriers have voluntarily submitted themselves to the penalty of 10 months of imprisonment, conditionally suspended for 3 years. They have been obliged to return to Ukraine and banned from entering Schengen Area countries for the next 5 years.
