“Opening a direct route to Sarajevo is yet another evidence of Poland’s increasing activity in the Western Balkans. I hope that it will not only help Polish pilgrims reach Medjugorje, but also facilitate even more vibrant economic, political, and cultural cooperation between Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk.

While in Sarajevo, he held talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Prime Minister Zoran Tegeltija and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Josip Brkić. The officials discussed bilateral political and economic relations, regional cooperation, and the European prospects for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and energy diversification in Southern and Eastern Europe. During the consultations, they also talked about the country’s internal political situation in the context of the oncoming general elections.

The deputy minister reiterated Poland’s steadfast support for the stability, unity and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its European prospects.

The secretary of state also visited Polish soldiers of the XXIII Polish Military Contingent of EUFOR Althea, where he stressed the importance of the operation and its positive reception among both the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the international community. He also met with Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordić. During the meeting, the deputy minister welcomed the charter air link to be opened between Katowice and Mostar, and emphasized the significant potential to develop self-government and economic cooperation between our countries.
