24.05.2022
On 24 May 2022, at the invitation of the German side, Minister Zbigniew Rau paid a working visit to Berlin to hold political consultations with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock.
Poland’s and Germany’s top diplomats discussed issues on the current bilateral agenda as well as the new security situation in Central Europe following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Other important topics under discussion were energy and food security, sanctions against Russia, and support for Ukraine. Minister Rau and Minister Baerbock concluded the consultations with the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on the provision of financial support to the International Youth Meeting Centre run by the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe.
The visit reflects the importance that Poland and Germany attach to an on-going coordination of and consultations on the policies and measures pursued by the two countries, particularly as regards such major events as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The foreign ministers agreed that at present the priority is to maintain unity and solidarity.
