17.09.2019

“The institute is an important source of expert knowledge. Its insight is always reliable and allows to understand not just the facts, but the determinants, interests and motives behind them,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz during the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Polish Institute of Foreign Affairs (PISM), which were held at the Warsaw’s Royal Castle.

The minister pointed out that the institute provides a unique forum for debate and dissemination of knowledge, making an important contribution to the discussion on the modern world. “PISM’s experts are highly valued participants of closed and open expert meetings. They share their knowledge and experience and provide analytical approach to current and very often hot issues,” noted Minister Czaputowicz. The top diplomat added that the institute’s analytical and organisational support is also helpful in the area of foreign policy-making and its efficient implementation.

In his speech, Minister Czaputowicz spoke about the challenges PISM will be facing in the nearest future. The minister referred to the courage of thought, new technologies and credibility in the era of widespread disinformation. “I have no doubt that a reliable, verified and verifiable information will be even more important. This will provide a lot of room to act for the Polish Institute of International Affairs, which is actively promoting Polish history,” concluded the minister.

President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and PISM’s first director Prof. Ryszard Stemplowski also delivered their addresses as part of the celebrations. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister Konrad Szymański and Polish Ambassador in Bern Jakub Kumoch, who took part in a panel titled “Poland in the changing world: 1999-2019. The role of expert institutions.” The event marking PISM’s anniversary brought together many representatives of foreign service, public administration, research centres and numerous members of parliament.
