“Jordan is our important partner, with whom Poland has very good relations. I am very happy that my visit coincides with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries,” said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz summing up the first day of his visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
On Saturday, the chief of Polish diplomacy met with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi. After the meeting, the foreign ministers chaired Polish-Jordanian political consultations. The talks focused on forging closer bilateral links, furthering political cooperation, as well as defence, security, economic, scientific and research cooperation. “We are committed to developing our bilateral cooperation in many fields. We can see a potential to intensify our contacts at an expert level and pursue cooperation not only in the energy and transport sectors, but also in the field of culture and science,” noted Minister Czaputowicz.
The interlocutors also discussed the situation in the Middle East, including the challenges related to the terrorist threat and the Middle East peace process. “Poland appreciates the constructive and stabilising role that Jordan plays in the region, especially its efforts to maintain the two-state solution in the Middle East peace process,” emphasised the chief of Polish diplomacy. Minister Czaputowicz also referred to the situation in Syria and the refugee crisis, which affects its neighbouring states the most. At the same time, he highlighted the importance Poland attaches to the activity of charities and humanitarian organisations and the assistance projects carried out in Jordan. “In the past four years over 20 Polish Aid programmes totalling EUR 4.5 million were launched. They are addressed not only to the refugees, but also to the Jordanians,” stated the chief of the Polish MFA adding that Poland also participates in the financing of EU projects as an EU member state.
During the meeting, the ministers also signed an agreement on lifting the visa obligation for holders of diplomatic passports.
Furthermore, at the invitation of his Jordanian counterpart, the chief of Polish diplomacy will take part in the traditional iftar meal, held after sundown in the holy month of Ramadan.
On the second day of his visit to Jordan, Minister Czaputowicz will visit the Zaatari refugee camp, where the Polish Medical Mission is carrying out a humanitarian project titled “Support for Syrian refugees in the Zaatari Refugee Camp and Jordanians in the Mafraq and Irbid Governorate in the field of social assistance and shelter.”
