Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz visits Belarus

Undersecretary of State at the MFA Marcin Przydacz concluded his three day’s visit to Belarus where he met with the deputy foreign minister of Belarus and held several consultations with representatives of local governments of the Lida, Grodno and Pinsk regions. He also met with members of partner organisations implementing development projects financed by Polish Foreign Ministry, as well as the Polish community in Belarus and representatives of the Catholic Church.

Deputy Minister Przydacz and the Belarusian deputy foreign minister took stock of Poland-Belarus relations in recent months and made plans for further cooperation. “We continue to dialogue with the Belarusian side on teaching Polish language in Grodno and Vawkavysk. We would like anyone willing to learn Polish to be able do so by attending courses run by charter schools,” said Deputy Minister Przydacz. Current conditions for education development of Polish minority were also at the centre of meetings with representatives of the Union of Poles in Belarus, the Polish Educational Society and the headmasters of Polish schools in Lida and Pinsk.

Deputy Minister Przydacz also met with Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of State George Kent overseeing the Eastern policy, who was visiting Minsk at the same time.

During his visit, Deputy Minister Przydacz learned about the progress in projects co-financed by the Polish Aid, including the August Velo bicycle trail between Rudawa, Lesnaya and Grodno which will soon become a part of the Green Velo Trail and this connect Poland with Grodno. He also visited an education centre in Malotkavichy supported by the Polish Aid and attended by over 150 disabled children, mainly of poor families in need of social assistance. The establishment focuses education on preparing the children for future independent life and professional activity.

The Polish delegation attended a signing ceremony of a contract with the Training Centre of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Lida concerning a project to increase safety and social integration. The Centre runs training courses to promote the culture of safety.
