09.06.2022
On 8-9 June 2022, Undersecretary of State Paweł Jabłoński visited Paris. One of the topics discussed during the Ministerial Council Meeting of the OECD, attended remotely by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was the impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Deputy Minister Jabłoński underlined Poland’s role in hosting the largest number of Ukrainian war refugees and organising assistance for the country. He also pointed to the negative consequences of the war for the world economy and global food security. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy noted that the OECD should provide active support for Ukraine in its post-war reconstruction, in coordination with international financial institutions and other donors.
The participants of the Ministerial Council stressed that thanks to a diplomatic initiative by Poland and Lithuania, the OECD will open its representation office in Kyiv. Poland also supports the OECD’s increased activity in Eurasian countries as the organisation is a leading world-class economic standard setter.
Additionally, the Ministerial Council Meeting of the OECD provided an opportunity to hold bilateral talks. The deputy chief of the Polish MFA met with Deputy Foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Japan, Raimundas Karoblis and Miyake Shingo, respectively. The meetings focused on economic and political cooperation between Poland and these two countries. Deputy Minister Jabłoński also held working consultations with Chair of the OECD's Development Assistance Committee Suzanne Moorhead. The talks centered around efforts to increase the international community’s support for Ukraine and countries, including Poland, that host Ukrainian refugees.
