Deputy Minister Andrzej Szejna talks with EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber

Today’s meeting was a continuation of a humanitarian conference organised by France, Germany, and the European Commission on 15 April 2024, which was held in Paris for the purpose of, among others, raising funds to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan. On that occasion, Poland pledged a contribution of EUR 1 million to humanitarian activities run by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sudan as part of the Regional Refugee Response Plan.
The talks focused mainly on the political situation in the Horn of Africa with particular focus on the refugee crisis in Sudan, a country torn by a civil war. Also discussed was, among other issues, the geopolitical competition on the Somali Peninsula and in the Red Sea region.
"In Poland, we are aware of the threats posed by a war and how important it is to provide humanitarian assistance to civilian population,", underlined Deputy Minister Szejna. He laso pledged Poland's support for the EU Special Representative's efforts regarding humanitarian actions ans seeking a peaceful solution to the conflict in Sudan, including more active cooperation with the civil society.
