18.03.2019

“Poland and Lithuania share a common vision of the future multiannual financial framework post-2020. Our countries should continue to work closely together during negotiations, including as part of the Friends of Cohesion Group,” Deputy Minister Konrad Szymański said during his today’s meeting with First Deputy Chancellor of the Lithuanian Government Deividas Matulionis.

The officials discussed Brexit, the EU multiannual financial framework, President Macron’s initiative and vision of a ‘European Renaissance’, and climate policy. Moreover, their agenda included energy security and gas interconnectors. “The GIPL project will make the Baltic States more secure and end their energy isolation by integrating them into the EU gas market. It’s an example of our efforts to foster energy solidarity in the region in the spirit of the Three Seas Initiative,” said the Polish deputy foreign policy chief.

The deputy minister went on to stress that in transport, Poland prioritizes the fastest possible completion of the expressway and motorway network. He also highlighted the very good cooperation with Lithuania on the Via Baltica project. “The interlinking of our border regions will boost economic growth and pave the way for better bilateral relations. For this reason, joint infrastructure projects should be implemented quickly and effectively,” he concluded.
