“Right now, the only possible way forward is for the British side to present concrete backstop proposals,” Deputy Minister Konrad Szymański said after a meeting with Stephen Barclay, UK Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.
“Together with the other EU-27 capitals, Warsaw has a vital interest in ensuring that the process of the UK’s exiting from the EU takes place on the basis of predictable rules,” emphasised Deputy Minister Szymański, pointing out that such a scenario would be the best one for Polish citizens and businesses. During the talks with Secretary Barclay, the deputy minister also stressed that the EU27 need UK proposals of how to solve the dispute. “Poland stands ready to assess them constructively but there is no alternative to EU-27 unity in these negotiations,” he added.
During the meeting, the British side also expressed its determination to reach agreement on this issue.
