“From the moment of establishing diplomatic relations 29 years ago, Poland and Oman have maintained friendly relations which we would like to intensify in the nearest future by increasing the frequency of political contacts and invigorating the economic exchange,” said Deputy Minister Maciej Lang during a meeting with Omani Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Al-Harithy.
The main topics of Oman consultations included bilateral political and parliamentary relations, development of economic and military cooperation, and concluding new bilateral agreements. The diplomats also discussed regional issues and points on the current international agenda, particularly security and terrorist threats in the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf. “Oman is one of the most important mediators in the region and a country that strives to defuse tensions,” stressed deputy Minister Lang. He added that Poland and Oman support de-escalating the current situation in the Persian Gulf region.
During his visit to the capital of Oman, Deputy Minister Maciej Lang met with Oman’s minister responsible for foreign affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah and Deputy Chairman of Oman State Council Dr Sheikh Al-Khattab bin Ghalib Al-Hinai.
Talks at the level of deputy ministers of foreign affairs are held on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman of 28 April 2009. The previous consultations in this formula took place in 2015.
