Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz attends Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Small Group Ministerial in Washington

14.11.2019

“Poland has consistently supported the efforts of the Global Coalition almost from its inception, working shoulder to shoulder with international partners to defeat ISIS,” Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz said during his visit to the United States.

Deputy Minister Przydacz, who led the Polish delegation at the ministerial in Washington, stressed the need to urgently stabilise the situation in northeast Syria in the context of Turkey’s recent activities in this area. He also pledged continued commitment to fighting ISIS and stabilising the areas of Iraq and Syria liberated from terrorists. tFurthermore, the deputy minister said that the Middle East is one of Poland’s priority regions in terms of development policy goals.

The participants called on all parties involved to refrain from escalating operations in northeast Syria. They stressed the need for continued fight against ISIS and for efforts to contain the activities of its fighters, especially those from beyond the Middle East. They also declared willingness to launch joint operations targeting ISIS terrorist cells worldwide.

The Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS was established in September 2014 at the U.S. initiative. It is now composed of 81 states and organisations (including NATO and the EU). The Small Group brings together 29 Coalition states that are mostly involved militarily and non-militarily in the fight against the terrorist group. Poland joined the Group in April 2016 following the announcement of military support for Coalition operations (through the contribution of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq).
