Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz attends ministerial dialogue in Stockholm marking Eastern Partnership’s 10th anniversary

07.11.2019

“Ten years ago, Poland and Sweden jointly put forward the idea of the Eastern Partnership as a vehicle for social, economic and, above all, institutional support for countries to the east of the EU. We are proud of what has been achieved,” said Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz during his visit to Stockholm, where he, together with the foreign ministers of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries and Sweden, took part in a ministerial dialogue in Stockholm marking the 10th anniversary of the EaP.

Deputy Minister Przydacz underlined the importance of the EaP as the EU’s key foreign policy and pointed to the need for the EU to be strongly involved in supporting its eastern neighbours. “Creating conditions for sustainable economic and human development across the EaP requires further progress from the Partner Countries in the fight against corruption, organised crime and illegal financial flows. The European Union should give priority to supporting these measures,” emphasised Deputy Minister Przydacz during a discussion on development policy in the Eastern Partnership countries. On that occasion, the deputy minister mentioned the Eastern Partnership Academy of Public Administration set up in Warsaw as an institution which has made an outstanding contribution to supporting reforms in the EaP countries.

During his two-day visit to Stockholm, on 6 November, MFA Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz also attended a development conference marking the Eastern Partnership’s 10th anniversary, speaking at the panel: “Development Talks: A New Deal for EaP — Putting People First”. The aim of the debate organised by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) was to define the EaP’s achievements in areas where the benefits of cooperation with the EU are mostly felt by the citizens of the six Partner Countries, and at the same time to identify key challenges for the future.

During his visit to Sweden, the deputy minister also held bilateral meetings with Karin Wallensteen, State Secretary to Prime Minister of Sweden, Per Olsson Fridh, State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation, and Carin Jämtin, Director General of SIDA. The talks explored the prospects for deepening Polish-Swedish cooperation in the Eastern Partnership region, but also in Africa and the Middle East, notably in the areas of investment in human capital, education, crisis management, and environmental protection.
