Deputy Minister Marek Prawda meets with representatives of Lithuanian MFA
04.03.2024
MFA Undersecretary of State Marek Prawda held bilateral talks with Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Simonas Šatūnas and Political Director Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė of the Lithuanian MFA.
The meeting focused on the necessity to come up with an approach to the threat posed by Russia and to further support to militant Ukraine that is both effective and acceptable for all EU member states. The participants commended the changes made in Western and Northern European countries in regard to their approach to European security as well as their departure from perceiving the EU primarily as an organisation aimed at economic cooperation. They raised the need for the continued and consistent provision of support to Ukraine, including by taking immediate steps towards the launching of its accession talks with the EU. The issue of sanctions was also high on the agenda, including the necessity to prevent their circumvention and to put Belarus under the same sanctions regime as the one imposed against Russia.
The meeting also offered an opportunity to discuss the prospects for furthering bilateral cooperation and to reiterate Poland’s requests regarding the protection of the rights of the Poles living in Lithuania.
