In the wake of escalating events in the region, over 100,000 refugees have come to Armenia. Local authorities took immediate action to provide shelter, medical care, and financial support, however, considering the scale of the crisis, the international community decided on additional support for Armenia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, and the Minister of National Defence immediately sent material aid in the form of 10 tons of food, 200 camp beds and bedding. At the same time, in response to an appeal from the UNHCR office in Yerevan, Polish diplomacy has contributed USD 200,000 to support Armenian refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh.

The handover event at the Yerevan airport was attended by Deputy Minister Wojciech Gerwel, Polish Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Skwieciński, and Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan. 

The deputy head of the Polish MFA also met with Secretary of Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan and Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan. The talks included the situation of refugees and security in the region. The interlocutors underlined friendly relations between the two countries.

Minister Gerwel firmly declared Poland’s support for Armenia’s democratic reforms and efforts to strengthen its cooperation with the EU. “Poland understands these efforts. We will help not only in the form of bilateral cooperation, but also within the European Union,” stressed the undersecretary of state at the Polish MFA.

Deputy Minister Gerwel also met with UNHCR Representative in Armenia Kavita Belani and Director of Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs Styopa Safaryan.
