The event’s name and concept allude to the first meeting of this kind, held at Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw on 1 May 2004.
“I am extremely pleased that twenty years after the first European Breakfast Meeting, we have gathered here at the MFA in the company of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Deputy Minister Henryka Mościcka-Dendys, and other distinguished guests. We all have vivid memories of how difficult a time it was and how many concerns we all had as a society,” Deputy Minister Radwan remarked in her opening address. She added that 20 years from then, owing to the commitment of the central government, NGOs, local authorities, the Church, and all of us citizens, our membership of the EU has been a success. The deputy minister emphasised that now, as a war rages on behind Poland’s eastern border, it is more imperative than ever that we have responsible people in power in a strong and united Europe.
The meeting was first organised by the Office of the Committee for European Integration and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation. Many of the people involved in that event and in the EU accession referendum campaign are now employed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland.
