Head of Foreign Service visits Brussels
22.11.2023
While in Brussels on 21–22 November 2023, Head of the Foreign Service Piotr Rychlik met with, among others, the management of the European External Action Service. During the talks, the officials discussed the employment of Polish citizens in the EU’s diplomatic structures. The visit to Belgium was also an opportunity to meet with Polish national experts and diplomats seconded to EU structures.
During a meeting with Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Stefano Sannino, the Head of the Foreign Service presented the assets of Polish candidates for posts in the EEAS headquarters in Brussels and for the European Union delegations around the world. The officials also spoke about Poland’s continued involvement in the programme of the European Diplomatic Academy (EUDA), which offers training for representatives of EU member states’ foreign services. Another important topic under discussion concerned preparations for the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025.
The visit also provided an opportunity to meet with heads of Polish diplomatic missions seated in Brussels—the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Poland to NATO, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union, and the Polish Institute—to discuss priority areas for action, particularly in the context of preparations for Poland’s taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025. The meeting with seconded Polish diplomats and national experts focused on crucial aspects of their work in EU structures.
