International conference on Afghanistan

“For nearly two decades, Poland has been supporting Kabul by means of development assistance programmes. Over that period, Poland has helped the Afghan community directly as well as through payments made to international organisations to support the reforms and institutions of the country,” underlined Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz during the international Afghanistan conference.

The videoconference was held on 23-24 November 2020 by the governments of Finland, Afghanistan, and the UN.

The deputy head of Polish diplomacy stressed that the conference is an opportunity to assess the progress of reforms introduced by Afghan authorities, and to devise future actions. The deputy minister also recalled a Polish initiative launched in 2019 under which training sessions were organised for representatives of Afghan government administration to support independent and professional local civil service.

The aim of the conference was to voice international support for the process of restoring peace, stability, development and respect for human rights in Afghanistan, as well as providing the international community’s support for the ongoing talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban in Doha. The conference was attended by about 150 participants, government representatives of 62 countries as well as 32 international organisations, and NGOs.
