Meeting of deputy foreign ministers of Poland, Ukraine and UK

Poland’s undersecretary of state and UK’s minister of state met in Warsaw, while the deputy foreign minister of Ukraine joined the meeting via video link.

The diplomats discussed the current war situation as well as possibilities to enhance cooperation as part of the Poland-Ukraine-UK trilateral partnership from the perspective of defending Ukraine against the Russian aggression. Ministers Przydacz and Docherty provided assurances of Poland’s and the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine, which is fighting for its freedom, sovereignty and independence. The officials underlined that by its successes on the front line, the Ukrainian army has proved its ability to make effective use of the assistance it receives. They agreed that Russia’s recent actions are part of the blackmail that neither Ukraine nor its supporters should give in to. Military assistance to Ukraine and pressure on Russia should continue, including through further sanctions and a consistent policy of international isolation of the aggressor country.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss energy security in the context of both the coming winter season and the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Also discussed were food security and the impact of Russian disinformation on public sentiment in Asia, Africa and South America with respect to the conflict. The interlocutors agreed on the need for cooperation in the field of strategic communication to effectively counter Russian disinformation. The meeting also highlighted the importance of Polish-British military cooperation, under which Poland has received assistance from the UK in the form of military equipment and the dispatch of British troops to Poland. The diplomats emphasised that these actions have helped to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, a step much needed in the face of a war just outside the Alliance’s borders.

“The war has consolidated our trilateral partnership. Together, we see the security challenges and threats posed by Russia’s actions. Both the UK and Poland are among those most resolved to support Kyiv,” said Deputy Minister Przydacz.
