MFA Secretary of State Arkadiusz Mularczyk takes part in event to commemorate victims of World War II
06.11.2022
On 6 November, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arkadiusz Mularczyk took part in a state event to mark the 80th anniversary of the crimes committed by Germans against the villagers of Gręzówka in Lubelskie Province.
In December 1942, German soldiers put 35 people living in the village before a firing squad on charges of extending help to partisans. Among the executed were entire families, including children. Nine more villagers were either shot or tortured to death by the occupying troops. The surviving dwellers buried the corpses of their murdered fellows.
Following a memorial roll call and a gun salute, new tombstones on the victims' graves and a statue of the Virgin Mary of Katyń were consecrated, and participants in the event laid flowers next to the monuments.
Official commemorations of victims of Nazi German crimes contribute to both local and state-level measures taken to memorialise the Poles killed during World War II, which was caused by German aggression.
