MFA statement on the detention of Mr. Edgar Zambrano by Venezuelan security apparatus

The MFA condemns the detention of Edgar Zambrano, the Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, by the Venezuelan security apparatus (SEBIN).

We regard such actions as arbitrary and in breach of the Venezuelan Constitution. They dash international efforts to find a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Venezuela.

We call for the immediate release of the Vice-President of the National Assembly, who is also the Chairman of the Venezuelan-Polish Parliamentary Group, for his immunity to be respected and for his safety to be ensured.

We again appeal for respecting civil rights and liberties and parliamentary immunity of deputies to the National Assembly, including that of the President of the Assembly acting as interim President, Juan Guaidó.
