MFA statement on the sentencing of Pavlo Gryb by a Russian military court
22.03.2019
We are deeply concerned with the information on the sentencing to six years imprisonment to 20-year-old Ukrainian Pavlo Gryb, cunningly abducted in August 2017 by the Russian Federal Security Service from the territory of Belarus.
Being a civilian and Ukrainian citizen, Pavlo Gryb has been convicted by the military court in Rostov-on-Don in a show trial. It was yet another case of the Russian judiciary engagement into broader aggressive Russia's actions in Europe.
We categorically demand Pavlo Gryb and all the other Ukrainian citizens illegally detained by Russia to be released. Until it happens, they must be allowed contacting families and - those who need it - provided with proper medical assistance. We call on Russia to ensure Ukrainian consular service access to the detained.
